Forbes, NSW, offers a beautiful location for capturing stunning wildlife and landscape photographs at the Gum Swamp Wildlife Refuge. On my previous visit, there were literally thousands of birds, so I was a little disappointed by the smaller numbers this time around. Even so, the wetlands still provided countless opportunities to capture the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The reserve features several well-positioned bird hides, including both single and double-storey viewing huts, connected by an easy walking trail through the wetlands. Whether you're a keen photographer, birdwatcher, or simply enjoy spending time in nature, Gum Swamp is well worth a visit. Read more about the swamp at this link.
Driving home from Forbes to Bendigo, we were treated to one final surprise—endless fields of vibrant yellow canola stretching as far as the eye could see. The brilliant golden blooms continued for more than 20 kilometres, creating a breathtaking landscape that seemed to glow beneath the winter sky. It's one of those simple yet unforgettable sights that reminds you just how beautiful the Australian countryside can be.
